CMA’s main statutory goals are:

1

To be active within the field of culture and especially traditional culture, with an emphasis on Cypriot traditional music, folk poetry, folklore, local history and tradition in general.

To encourage the recording, research and promotion – but also to record, research and promote – of the Traditional Cultural Expressions of Cyprus, as well as elements of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which have either been registered or are in the process of being registered in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

To transfer knowledge and to develop skills through activities concerning elements of the Traditional Cultural Expressions of Cyprus and Intangible Cultural Heritage that have been registered or are in the process of being registered in the National Registry of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

To support mobility in relation to activities concerning elements of the Traditional Cultural Expressions of Cyprus and Intangible Cultural Heritage that have been registered or are in the process of being registered in the National Registry of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

To encourage the education and transmission of Traditional Cultural Expressions and Intangible Cultural Heritage, to enhance creativity, and to encourage public participation, as well as the mobility and international collaboration of creators/researchers. The Company will not provide services of higher education.

To strengthen the sustainability of Traditional Cultural Expressions and Intangible Cultural Heritage, their creative adaptation to modern conditions, and the cultivation of their reception as a living heritage in constant evolution.

To collect existing (private and non-private) archives of Cypriot music (these may include recordings, video recordings, photographs, or all three), which are in the hands of researchers/performers or lay citizens.

To create a digital repository, i.e. a digital library, which can be consulted by researchers/students of Cypriot traditional music, as well as by every interested citizen.

To organize and present seminars, workshops, lectures and concerts on topics related to the company’s objectives: Cypriot traditional music, Cypriot poetry, folklore, local history and tradition in general, in order to encourage creativity and public participation.

To help older and younger artists who are active in the field of Traditional Cultural Expressions (e.g. traditional musicians, folk poets, etc.) to record their work themselves, e.g. in the form of a book, CD, or other digital form.

To create and cultivate collaborations with relevant bodies in Cyprus and abroad, in order to have mobility in the relevant branches and international collaborations of creators/researchers.

To contribute, through international collaborations, to the dialogue between Cypriot elements of Traditional Cultural Expressions and Intangible Cultural Heritage and corresponding elements in the Mediterranean, in Europe, and internationally.
