How can we collect stories from those around us? How can we convince people to share their stories with us? How can we record these stories ethically, in a way that respects each person’s personal narrative and desires?
As part of this year’s Animafest, Cyprus Music Archive is offering a workshop on how to collect ethnographic material/oral history. In addition to discussing the topics outlined above, the workshop will include practical application of knowledge, since we will collect material from Salamiou and the surrounding villages.
The workshop has three parts:
9/8, 5-7pm: discussion/teaching, Lagria Tavern (Vaso)
10/8 & 11/8: collection of material in the participants’ own time
12/8, 5-7pm: final presentation and discussion, Lagria Tavern (Vaso)
The workshop is free and open to everyone. No prior experience in necessary.
