Cyprus Music Archive is offering a series of three interactive workshops on Cypriot “fones”, led by Nicoletta Demetriou and Michalis Terlikkas.
These workshops are open to people with singing experience (amateur or professional).
The content of the workshops is as follows:
Workshop 1 (theory; Nicoletta Demetriou): What exactly do we define as “fones” in Cypriot traditional music? How are they different from other tunes and songs? What’s their relation to improvised couplets?
Workshop 2 (practice 1; Nicoletta Demetriou): How could we approach this genre as singers? By listening to archival and commercial recordings, we will attempt to reach an understanding of the aesthetic features of their performance, and will begin practising on specific tunes.
Workshop 3 (practice 2; Michalis Terlikkas and Nicoletta Demetriou): The practice will continue with the collaboration of Michalis Terlikkas.
