Dr Stavros Stavrou Karayanni

Professor of English Literature, Dean of the School of Humanities, Social and Education Sciences, European University Cyprus

Stavros S. Karayanni is Professor of English and Dean of the School of Humanities, Social and Education Sciences at European University Cyprus. His research and teaching fields include Cyprus literature, Middle Eastern dance, gender, and sexuality.

He is the author of Dancing Fear and Desire: Race, Sexuality and Imperial Politics in Middle Eastern Dance (Wilfrid Laurier UP, 2004), co-author of Sexual Interactions: The Social Construction of Atypical Sexual Behaviors (Universal Publishers, 2006), and co-editor of Vernacular Worlds, Cosmopolitan Imagination (Brill, 2015).  From 2007 to 2020 he was managing editor of Cadences: A Journal of Literature and the Arts in Cyprus.

In addition to his academic research, Karayanni has also published creative writing pieces, and is also active as a dance performer.
